Dashashwamedh Ghat is one of the oldest and most famous ghat in Varanasi located on the bank of River Ganges. It is a major religious and cultural center for thousands of pilgrims and visitors. The name “Dashashwamedh” refers to ten-horse sacrifices (known as “Dasha Ashwamedha Yajna”) performed by Lord Brahma at this place.

People believe that Lord Shiva performed a sacrifice here, and they associate the ghat with various Hindu gods. This ghat is also one of the holiest spots for Hindus, where devotees take a dip in river for purification. It is located in the heart of Varanasi and is easily accessible. It is close to other important temples and landmarks like Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

If you are coming from your vehicle then it can be parked at Godowlia 2 wheeler parking zone. But if you are coming via public transport then you have to walk  from Girja ghar crossing to ghat. This is because  3 wheeler and above are not allowed before 9pm at this route. Dashashwamedh Ghat is especially famous for its grand Ganga Aarti, held every evening.

The ritual typically begins around 6:30 or 7:00 PM, depending on the season and goes for about 45 minutes to an hour.
